Nope, your eyes do not deceive you. I say let's give this another whirl, starting with
kendrauke's awesome (and useful!) fretboard doodle.

I don't watch Elementary, but this bit of fanart is delightful even if all you have is
fantinevaljean's explanation: I can’t see [Jonny Lee Miller]'s Holmes playing the violin. But I can see him playing a ukulele for some reason.

uketeecee, who is an excellent Tumblr user to follow anyway (he loves his vintage Martin ukuleles!), another Saturday Evening Post cover from the 1920s!

I don't remember in front of which movie I saw the trailer for Hotel Transylvania, but it does open on a very dark and stormy night... with Dracula playing a ukulele for his daughter. So, you know, I think I might be sold at least a little.

Watch the whole trailer here.

Meet Miss Olive and Miss Magriet, two ladies from
TheJumpingFleaMarket to start your week.

( Close-ups )
And a quick question to you, dear members: for myself, I have been so neglectful of my ukulele that I've (!!) lost most of my calluses, which is distressing. I'm starting to think that maybe some mutual accountability/goal-setting might help me actually progress, rather than just fiddling around and not acquiring skills or a repertoire. Would anyone be interested in a once-weekly check-in post, where we can declare a goal for the week (learn a song, practice strumming, &c) and talk about how we think we did the week before?

This is the cutest! Okay, even if you're like me and iPad/iPhone-less, you can appreciate these really darling cartoons of a bear playing a ukulele, created as part of the Ukulele Rangers, a celebration of people who bring their ukuleles to Yosemite National Park!

The printmongers (that's what they call themselves!) at
aardvarkonsea have a lot of fun with their prints. Their take on the proper place of ukuleles in our lives is long, but not to be missed.

Nemu Nemu is cute. It's a comic series by Audra Furuichi and Scott Yoshinaga featuring two magical stuffed toy pups named Nemu and Anpan. Along with their owners Kana and Anise, they go on hilarious adventures exploring what it's like to live in our world. (According to the website, anyway.)
So, there's no way a comic about cute things could leave out ukuleles. See below the cut for what happened.

In the Northern Hemisphere, and certainly in Chicago, where I live, summer is in full swing, and most of us are dreaming of something to cool us off. Thank goodness
chaldea supplies with this adorable tiny print.

I see this pop up on Etsy more than anything else, and the "official website" of French Post-Impressionist painter Henri Rousseau doesn't seem to feature it, but all the same, here is a cool picture of a dude riding a tiger and playing a ukulele. Which is, objectively speaking, a pretty badass way to start one's week.

Not only is this print by
RozennBothuon charmingly ominous, but most of its price gets donated to the Japanese Red Cross.

Via Ukulele Brasil, a pretty darling cartoon that needs no translation (but I'll try and provide one anyway):

It's been yonks and yonks since I was any good at French, and the following is from Google Translate from the Portuguese, which has already been translated once, so... all things considered, this could be a lot more game-of-telephone-y!

Yeah, I finally got what I needed to become a true artist as Sfar, Boulet and others ... the essential and indispensable ukulele!
Firstly, it seems to have big fingers and the houses are too small scale.
Actually, it's like playing guitar with boxing gloves.
But the cool thing is that from the first chord, we are transported directly to Hawaii ... first class.
Then try trying to quickly tap the repertoire of Nirvana as a teenager on his first guitar, but with a Hawaiian twist.

At the Columbus airport yesterday, I got a lot of comments on my ukulele from passengers and TSA agents alike. (Some information about how to get instruments through airports in the United States!) Riding Amtrak trains with a ukulele is a magnified (and excellent) experience; everyone wants to hear you play, and in the viewing cars, which are floor-to-ceiling glass with lounge areas, you're encouraged to do so. The theme is pretty universal, as this Normal Rockwell magazine cover more than demonstrates: ukuleles do well on the road. (Fun fact: this is the date of my dad's birthday, right year and everything!)

I can't quite decipher the full title (or date) of this Italian magazine -- Le Grandi... Tivne? -- and search engines aren't entirely helping. Nonetheless, images transcend language barriers, and I think all of us can identify, either with the singer/player or the opinionated kidlet on the floor. Happy Monday!
